Ajose Confident Town Can Emerge Victorious On Derby Day

4 February 2017

Nicky Ajose is thrilled to be back at his “footballing home” and can’t wait to potentially make his third debut in tomorrow’s Derby Day clash against Oxford United at The County Ground (12pm Kick-Off).

The prolific striker sealed his return to SN1 on Deadline Day after joining on loan until the end of the season from Charlton Athletic.

With Town in need of goals, Ajose is expected to be involved against Town’s local rivals on Sunday and the frontman has made it clear what he wants to achieve from his third spell with the club.

“I’m delighted to be back. I’m looking forward to the Derby on Sunday now,” he told Town’s Official YouTube Channel.

“This is my footballing home and I’ve had two very good spells here in the past. I know quite a few of the players, I know how the club operates on and off the field and the fans have always been brilliant to me, so it was perfect for me to come back.

“Hopefully I can do the best I can this season and bring smiles to faces.

“I’ve got no intention of getting relegated – that isn’t on my radar.

“I’m just hoping to do well and help get the club back up the league.

“I just want to play football and I’m looking to come here and show people what I can do again.”

Ajose is now fully focused on tomorrow’s showdown with Oxford and the forward knows just important the fixture is to the Town faithful.

“It is massive and it is going to be a packed County Ground,” he continued.

“Us as players know how much it means and the result against Bristol adds a bit more on the game, so we can’t wait.

“It is all set up nicely.

“There is going to be an electric atmosphere, we’re aware of that, but it is down to us at the end of the day to help create that atmosphere for our fans and get a result.

“They are a good side, an aggressive side and they’ve got some good players but we’ve got a lot of quality here and we’re confident.

“To score the winner would be a dream but I would much prefer not to score and for us to get the three points.

“I’ve come here to win games of football and I hate losing. I obviously want to score goals but the important thing is to get three points.

“I’m here for the team.”
