Branco Happy With Start To New Year

3 January 2017

Raphael Rossi-Branco was happy to have kick-started 2017 with a point and a clean sheet and is now setting his sights on beating Shrewsbury Town this weekend.

Town got their New Year underway with a 0-0 draw at home to Southend United on Monday and Branco feels he and his team-mates can take plenty of confidence from that result heading into Saturday's crunch clash against the Shrews at SN1.

“It is always good to have a clean sheet and it gives everyone more confidence,” he said.

“We could have got more than just a point as the game was really, really open and both sides had good chances to score, but I’m pleased to have started 2017 with a point and a clean sheet.

“Let’s see what happens next.

“We haven’t been playing well in the last few games but the back-four was tremendous against Southend and Lawrence (Vigouroux) made some really good saves.

“Lawrence works hard every day and he’s saved us in a lot of games this season – he’s been tremendous.

“It was very, very tough, Southend have got a good side and Simon Cox and Marc-Antoine Fortune are good strikers.

“Like I said, it wasn’t bad to start the New Year with a point and a clean sheet.”

Town are back in action on Saturday when they host fellow strugglers Shrewsbury Town at The County Ground (3pm Kick-Off), and Branco knows the importance of securing what would be a huge three points.

“We’re playing at home and we must get the win,” he added.

“The result against Southend has given us more confidence and we now have to dominate the game on Saturday.

“Shrewsbury aren’t as good as Southend so if we do the same things as we did on Monday then we’ll get the three points.”
