CENTRAL LEAGUE: Embleton Proud Of Second-String Following Newport Success

1 February 2017

Town First-Team Coach Ross Embleton heaped praise on his Development side following their 3-2 victory away at Newport County on Tuesday.

Anton Rodgers’ classy free-kick coupled with strikes from Jordan Stewart and Jake Evans rounded off a good day at the office for the Reds’ second-string, leaving Embleton delighted.

“It was a brilliant result,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“There has been a number of the boys involved in that group that have put on some good performances in the last couple of weeks, but the results haven’t shown a clear reflection of those performances.

“It was nice for them to get a result.

“I thought we were excellent in the first-half and it was as good a performance as I’ve seen from that group all season.

“The second-half was a bit scrappy but the first-half was really positive.

“Jordan Stewart was up against two big, strong central defenders and he gave us an outlet when we were under a little bit of pressure and when they were chasing the game at the end he broke away, wriggled and showed some real individual quality to get us up the pitch.

“He should have scored one in the first-half but I was really pleased for him that he won the penalty for Jake Evans first of all, and then he got the goal as well to round off his performance.

“Jake has been adapting to playing in a position and he did exceptionally well to stand up and take a penalty when we played Exeter in the Checkatrade Trophy earlier in the season, so I knew yesterday that if there was a penalty to be taken then Evo was more than capable of taking it.

“It was a good exercise overall because a number of the youth boys started and got minutes, so it was really beneficial for them.

“Like I said, the second-half became a bit of a scrap and that is not always our forte but we showed that side of the game to battle away and get three points.”
