Colkett - Coventry Win Was A Great Feeling

27 February 2017

Charlie Colkett was left thrilled in the wake of his side’s impressive 3-1 victory against Coventry City on Saturday and he believes the best is yet to come from Town.

Nicky Ajose’s brace and Jon Obika’s bullet header wrapped up a huge three points for Town at the Ricoh and handed their survival hopes a boost.

Colkett played a key part in that victory and he feels the Reds can now use that as a platform to go on and achieve even greater things between now and the end of the season.

“It has been a long time since we beat Bolton Wanderers and we know we needed a win,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk exclusively.

“You could see what it meant to everybody and it was a great feeling to finally get three points.

“The huddle at the end shows the togetherness of the team and the staff and the fans were great, we just need them to stick behind us no matter what, home and away.

“Everything has been on the up since I came here and it was only a matter of time. Look how well we played last week against Oldham and that point was worth it because we picked up three points on Saturday.

“We know we are more than capable of continuing to do that week in and week out.

“It was frustrating against Oldham because we didn’t take our chances but you’ve got to keep the belief, keep the confidence high and Nicky Ajose and Jon Obika proved on Saturday why they are great at what they do.

“It was a great day.

“We were excellent defensively again and Lawrence Vigouroux was brilliant again. We were devastated to concede the goal and it should be like that.”

Colkett capped off a fine performance with a sublime assist for Jon Obika’s diving header against the Sky Blues, and the midfielder was happy with his display in the middle of the park.

“It was great and hopefully I can get some more assists and chip in with a few goals as well,” he added.

“I could have had a few more assists on Saturday if more chances went in but I’ll take the one on the weekend.

“I enjoyed playing alongside Rohan Ince as well and I thought he had a great game last week and he was great again on Saturday.

“We dominated the last two games as a pair so he’s great to play alongside and he’s got the experience behind him.

“A change in formation has helped and I built on last week’s game. I’m very pleased on an individual basis but, more importantly, the team were great and that is three points we can build on.”
