Conor Thomas Reflects On Millwall Heroics

26 March 2017

Conor Thomas was elated that his first-ever goal for Swindon Town secured a vital 1-0 victory against Millwall on Saturday.

The midfielder struck in the dying seconds to send The County Ground into raptures and breathe new life into his side’s fight against relegation.

“The bottom line is that we got three points and that’s the most important thing,” Thomas told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“I was pleased to get the goal and thankfully it was enough to get us over the line.

“It keeps us fighting for another week and we’ll just keep going every day and every game and hopefully it gives us a chance to get out of the situation we’re in.

“It was a great feeling to score at the end and you could see how much it meant to everyone.

“We’ll just keep fighting every day to get out of the situation we’re in.

“It was a real battle and we knew their strengths. They are a big, strong physical team and they are all men and they played quite direct.

“We dealt with their strengths really well and Lawrence (Vigouroux), the back-four and Incey (Rohan Ince) nullified their threats and gave us a chance to build on that.

“Credit to them for the clean sheet.

“They were all brilliant and everyone is delighted after the disappointment of last week.

“There are no easy games now and every game is a cup final so, as I said, we’ll be fighting every week to get us out of this situation.”

And Thomas revealed what exactly was going through his mind when Nicky Ajose’s deflected shot rolled into his path in the last minute of stoppage time.

“I couldn’t believe that he didn’t pass but that’s Nicky and that’s what he does,” Conor joked.

“My mind went blank really to be honest but I just knew I had to get good contact on it and thankfully it went in.
