Conroy - I'm Looking Forward To Playing For Swindon

27 January 2017

Dion Conroy was over the moon to have completed a move to Town earlier today and he now can’t wait to get started with his new club.

The centre-back put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year contract after joining from Premier League giants Chelsea for an undisclosed fee, becoming the Robins' fifth signing of the January Transfer Window following the arrivals of Ben Gladwin, Charlie Colkett, Fankaty Dabo and Islam Feruz.

In what is his very first interview since signing for the Reds, Conroy revealed that the chance to join a “big club” like Swindon was too good an opportunity to turn down.

“I’m very excited to be here,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk exclusively.

“Swindon is a very big club and I’m just looking forward to getting started and playing.

“I found out on Wednesday that coming here was a possibility and it just all happened really quickly.

“I’m just happy to properly join and get everything signed – I’m looking forward to playing!

“Everyone knows about Swindon so it is obviously a very big club and to be involved with the first-team here is very exciting.

“Hopefully I can bring something to the team and help the club win points.

“One of the main attractions for me was the chance to play regularly and develop my game so hopefully I can get game time and show everyone what I can do.

“I want to work hard, get my head down, get used to everything and get in the team and help them out.

“I’m just looking forward to playing for Swindon.”

Conroy joins former Chelsea team-mates Charlie Colkett, Fankaty Dabo and Islam Feruz at SN1 and he’s looking forward to linking back up with the trio.

“I’m very good friends with all three of them and they all said that they are loving it down here, so that was another positive thing,” he continued.

“Having them here is another positive and they’ve all settled in well so hopefully I can do the same.”

The young talent is at his best when playing as a centre-back and he outlined what he feels his best attributes are.

“I like to get on the ball and I don’t mind having a bit of a scrap!

“I’m a bit of an all-rounder really and obviously coming from Chelsea we were always taught to play out from the back, be good on the ball and use the ball well so that is probably my main attribute.”

Conroy is available to feature against Bristol Rovers tomorrow (12:30pm Kick-Off) and the defender is itching to get his Town career started.

“I just can’t wait to keep working hard and hopefully get some game time,” he added.

“All the boys are looking forward to tomorrow and I’m looking forward to it as well because obviously I’ve not been involved in one of these derbies for Swindon before.

“Hopefully I might be able to play a part and help the team and I’m looking forward to the atmosphere.

“It is a big opportunity for me and I’ve just got to keep working hard, keep impressing the manager in training and when I play I need to show what I can do and impress people.

“Again, I’m looking forward to playing for a club like Swindon and I can’t wait to get started.”
