Fankaty Dabo has admitted that his joy at opening his account in professional football on Sunday was cut short.
The on-loan Chelsea defender gave the Reds the lead against Oxford United with a fine strike in the first-half, sending the home fans into raptures.
It looked like that strike could have been enough to secure the spoils on Derby Day, but two quick-fire goals from Liam Sercombe and Rob Hall in the second-half made it an afternoon to forget for Town.
And Dabo has now described his goal as a “bittersweet moment” and revealed that everyone at the club is still hurting from Sunday.
“We wanted to win at all costs and my goal doesn’t mean anything because we didn’t win the game,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.
“We want to put that right this Saturday.
“It was a Derby game and nobody wanted to lose. We knew what it meant to the fans and to everyone at the club and losing that game hurt.
“We just need to rack up some wins and get everyone back on side.
“We’re trying to make ourselves better, trying to improve at all times and we’re trying to get rid of the mistakes we made on Sunday.
“It was a great game to score in and I was hoping it was going to be the winner but obviously it didn’t turn out that way.
“At the time it was great but once the result changed it was a bittersweet moment.”
Meanwhile, Town kick-off a huge run of games away at Bury this Saturday (3pm Kick-Off) and Dabo knows three points is a must.
“We can’t draw and we can’t lose this weekend, simple as,” he added.
“Bury are below us and we need to keep them below us. We can only focus on this game and getting the three points and then we’ll focus on the next game.
“It is a massive, massive period for us and we’ve just got to focus on getting three points and there can’t be any other image in our mind but three points.”
