Goddard - It Could Be A Great Day For Everyone

8 April 2017

John Goddard knows just how big today’s clash against MK Dons is and he’s hoping a bumper crowd will play their part in Town hopefully securing the three points.

The Reds could well move out of the relegation zone with a win later (3pm Kick-Off) and, as a result, the club have been promoting their #PackTheCG campaign all week in order to create an electric atmosphere for this afternoon’s fixture.

And, having secured back-to-back victories in their last two outings, Goddard now has his sights set on making it another memorable afternoon for everyone connected with the football club.

“It is a huge game and they get bigger as you get towards the business end of the season,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk exclusively.

“The next game in football is always the most important one so everything is firmly focused on the MK Dons game and trying to get a positive result.

“We’re fighting hard at the minute and we need to keep continuing to do that.

“A lot of football is about confidence and momentum and you often see at the end of the season that the teams that put runs together are often successful, whether that is getting into the Play-Offs or avoiding relegation.

“We know that we’ve got a lot of hard work still left to do but we’ve given ourselves a fighting chance and the boys have showed great spirit recently, which we need to continue to do.

“We need to stick together and hopefully at the end of the season we can come out having maintained our status in League One, which is vital for everyone here.”

MK Dons arrive at The County Ground today unbeaten in their last four outings and Goddard is expecting a tough test.

“They are a very good side and they are a side who should be a lot higher up the table than they currently are,” he continued.

“The club has got great resources, great players and a very good manager, so they will be very disappointed with their season and they will be looking to finish on a high.

“We’ve watched their clips and they’ve got some good players, but we feel like we are in a good place at the moment to cause them problems and hopefully we can do that.”

Finally, Goddard has thrown his support behind the club’s #PackTheCG campaign and is hoping for an electric atmosphere this afternoon.

“It makes a massive difference and the supporters sometimes underestimate how much of a difference they make when they are in the stands,” he added.

“When there is a positive vibe from the crowd and the stands it translates onto the pitch and it can give the players a real lift.

“At the same time, the players need to give the fans something to cheer about so we need to go out there and play with lots of energy, work as hard as we can and hopefully the combination of the players putting it in on the pitch and the fans turning up in their numbers will be a recipe for success.

“The message to the fans is that we need the support today and it is vitally important. Each individual can make a difference today by getting behind the team and being positive.

“If you are thinking of staying away then just make an effort because it makes a real difference to the boys and the atmosphere can play a major role.

“If we make it like a cup final and we try and perform like it is a cup final, then it could be a great day for everyone.”
