Goddard Keen To Focus On The Positives From Shrewsbury Draw

2 October 2016

John Goddard was keen to take the positives from Town’s 1-1 draw away at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

The attacking midfielder gave the visitors the lead with a great header inside the opening ten minutes, but Ivan Toney struck on the stroke of half-time to rescue a point for the Shrews.

“I thought we dominated the game and we had more clean chances than them,” Goddard told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“I thought we played quite well in large parts of the game so it would have been nicer to get the three points.

“It is not a bad result here. We’ve sat in the changing room and said it is something to build on and it is a good point.

“Hopefully we can get something again in our next fixture.

“We were excellent in the first 35 minutes and really set our stall out to dictate the game and create some chances.

“Obviously going 1-0 up and you don’t win the game you are a little bit disappointed, but there lots of positives out there and lots to build on.

“Of course, there are things we can work on as well but we’ll have a look at that in the week and move forward.

"There is a lot to build on and hopefully we can get a little run going soon and be able to climb up the table."

Goddard was thrilled to open his account for Town yesterday and is now looking to embark on a goalscoring run.

“I got a couple of headers last season. I’m not the biggest but I think it was just due to the timing of the run that managed to get me in there and it was a good ball in,” he added.

“It was nice to see it hit the back of the net and I’ve been unlucky on a few occasions so far this season, so hopefully that can be the start of a few more.

“It has been coming and it has been just a matter of time. It was a nice feeling and it was nice to contribute to the team as well in the last couple of games.

“I’ve started a few in a row now and I feel like I’m growing and I’m growing within the group, so it was nice to be able to contribute and the goal was the perfect way to do that.”
