Goddard Looks Ahead To Fleetwood Test

31 March 2017

John Goddard is hoping that Town can keep the feel-good factor going when they take on Fleetwood on Saturday.

The Reds head to Highbury Stadium tomorrow (3pm Kick-Off) looking to make it two wins on the bounce following last weekend’s impressive 1-0 success over Millwall.

And, while admitting that his side will be posed a tough test by the Sky Bet League One high-flyers, Goddard is confident that the Reds can savour that winning feeling once more.

“Scoring at the death in any game gives you a massive lift as a group of players and, of course, the three points were vital for us as well,” he said.

“It has given a real lift to the place and it is something we need to take forward going into Fleetwood and for the remainder of the season.

“It is going to be difficult (to achieve safety) but it is possible and the boys are aware that it is just one win and we’ve not completed anything yet. All we’ve done is give ourselves a lifeline and we’re going to try and take that opportunity.

“We’ve got a long way to go and there is a lot of hard work to put in over the remainder of the season.

“We’re well aware of that but the Millwall win has given us a lift this week and hopefully we can build on that.”

Fleetwood are currently riding high in the Sky Bet League One and Goddard is expecting another tough test on the road tomorrow afternoon.

“They are very organised and the manager has done a good job there,” continued the midfielder.

“We’ve looked at how they play, we’ve looked at their videos and they are well-structured and they have a goal threat going forward as well.

“They’ve got players who can hurt teams but we’ve got a game plan based on what we think their strengths and weaknesses are and hopefully we can pull off a result.

“They play a back-five and they are very well organised, they’ve got some strong defenders and they don’t take risks, so it isn’t going to be easy to go and get loads of goals up there.

“But, like I said, we’ve got a plan and it took us 95 minutes to score against Millwall so if that happens again then it won’t be a problem.

“Hopefully we can cause them a few issues going forward.”
