Henry Ready To Grasp His Chance With Both Hands

12 September 2016

Town stopper Will Henry is determined to seize his chance with both hands if he’s selected to play against Chelsea’s Development Squad on Tuesday night.

Swindon open their Checkatrade Trophy campaign tomorrow evening (7.45pm Kick-Off) at The County Ground with a number of talented youngsters set to feature for the Blues.

Town are expected to make changes for the game and Henry could well be handed his first start of the season between the sticks.

Should that happen then Henry is keen to impress against Chelsea ahead of making his first league start of the season against Bury on Saturday with first-choice keeper Lawrence Vigouroux suspended for one game.

“I’m really looking forward to it but I’ve just got to make sure I’m ready and prepared like I have been for every game I’ve been involved in this year,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“I want to take my chance.

“I wouldn’t be sat here right now if I didn’t perform the way I did in those two games last season, so those two games were a massive boost.”

Henry also spoke about making the transition from a scholar to being involved with the first-team day in and day out.

“I would not say there is a massive difference because when you are a scholar that stage is to get you ready for first-team football, so it is not a massive transition,” he added.

“Playing wise, first-team football is a lot quicker and a lot more physical, and when I stepped up last season I dealt with it well purely because of what I did as a scholar.

“When you are a scholar it is more about developing your game and getting ready for first-team football, but you’ve got to have that winning side of it as well and when you play first-team football you have to win.

“Every game we set out to win so that’s the main thing.”
