Town Head Coach Luke Williams has given an update on the fitness of a number of players ahead of the Reds’ trip to Millwall on Boxing Day…
ON JON OBIKA:
“He’s in contention for Boxing Day but there is still some discomfort there, but I’m sure Jon has got a very good chance for Millwall.”
ON BRANDON ORMONDE-OTTEWILL:
“We would like to think that Brandon has got a chance for Boxing Day but we just have to see how he reacts to his work and any training that he does.
“He’s not fully fit but has still got a chance of being ready for Boxing Day.”
ON JAMES BROPHY:
“James is a little bit further away but he’s just working in the gym at the moment and hopefully he’ll be ready to train as soon as possible.”
ON JORDAN YOUNG:
“He had a problem in the reserve game against Cheltenham on Tuesday so we got him off the pitch before it was anything too serious, but it’s not anything too bad for Jordan.
“He’s played a lot of games the last two weeks for a young body and had a lot of training in-between, so we are just being careful with him.
“We just need to be careful any time he feels anything out of the ordinary to make sure he’s okay.”
Town have got a few problems in the left-back position at present but Tom Smith has emerged as a possible option to fill that role in recent weeks.
“It is up to him to show in training that he can get to grips with his positioning and decision making,” Williams said.
“When he’s been on the pitch he’s shown that he’s capable and he’s willing so that’s an option.
“We’ve got good options there.
“Tom’s commitment and his energy is obvious but he’s got real quality as well. He scored a top quality goal in the reserve game on Tuesday and he’s showing everyone that he’s got a lot of strings to his bow.
“The next step for him is trying to get a run in the team and all the ability is there, it is just about making the right decisions minute after minute in a league game.”
