Luke Williams Gives Injury Update Prior To Bury Clash

16 September 2016

Town Head Coach Luke Williams has provided a fitness update on a few members of his squad ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League One meeting with Bury…

JORDAN YOUNG:

“Jordan Young attempted to join in training but could feel something and it was wise to put him back in the medical room before that became something more serious.”

JORDAN STEWART:

“Jordan Stewart is doing well but we think his problem is ongoing unfortunately and it is going to take him a little bit longer to get back to training.

“He may avoid surgery so that is the route we are going down at the moment because if we can avoid him going under the knife then we will.

“But if that doesn’t work then he will have to be scheduled for surgery.”

ANTON RODGERS:

“Anton was struggling with a tight lower-back and that was probably just a culmination of playing lots of games, so he was just rested for the Chelsea game.

“It was a close call as to whether or not he would be able to play but we thought it was best to rest him.”

ON GIVING CERTAIN FIRST-TEAM MEMBERS A REST IN MIDWEEK:

“Whilst we are taking the competition (the Checkatrade Trophy) very seriously, it is also an opportunity to rest tired legs and also to give other players an opportunity.

“They would be very disappointed if they didn’t get an opportunity at some point during the season, and it is as good a time as any.

“I was very pleased and I think the boys only did themselves a favour with the performances, so it has given us a lot to think about and given us that reassurance that there is depth in the squad.

“The Chairman has put a very good squad together and we can also see a few of the young boys starting to mature now and maybe they will be able to play a bigger part in the squad than they had anticipated.”
