MATCH PREVIEW: SWINDON TOWN V WALSALL

21 October 2016

Town will be full of confidence and looking to record their second successive victory at home when they entertain Walsall at SN1 on Saturday (3pm Kick-Off).

The Reds were outstanding in midweek as they defeated Rochdale 3-0 at The County Ground thanks to goals from Darnell Furlong, Nathan Delfouneso and Nathan Thompson.

Walsall, on the other hand, claimed a share of the spoils away from home on Tuesday after playing out a 1-1 draw with Gillingham in the Sky Bet League One.

Michael Doughty was on target the last time these two sides met back in April 2016, although the midfielder’s strike was cancelled out by a Kieron Morris equaliser.

And goals from Jon Obika and Louis Thompson handed Town a last gasp victory the last time the Saddlers played at SN1 in November 2015.

STAT ATTACK:

The two teams have done battle on 96 occasions with Town able to boast the better head-to-head record having won 35 of those encounters.

Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill isn’t fit enough to feature against Walsall and that's the case with Jon Obika, Michael Doughty, Lloyd Jones, Jordan Stewart and Jordan Young whilst Jamie Sendles-White remains on the long-term injury list.

WALSALL - The visitors will arrive at SN1 tomorrow without Simeon Jackson (knee), Flo Cuvelier (ankle) and Max Kouhyar (knee), whilst Reece Flanagan and Rory Oliver are both long-term absentees.

A WORD FROM BOTH CAMPS:

Luke Williams, Swindon Town Head Coach: “They’ve not only lost Tom Bradshaw but they’ve lost many others who were a very, very good group of players.

“Some of them had been playing together in the same team for a few seasons and had a very good understanding, so now it is about trying to rebuild the understanding between new players.

“They’ve had games that they would have been very pleased with and got results from, and they’ve probably had games where they’ve come away scratching their heads and wondering why they didn’t quite perform the same way.

“They are building again and we don’t want to catch them on a day when it comes together so we will be on our guard.”

Jon Whitney, Walsall Manager: “It’ll be mouth-watering to see who can unlock whose defence first.

“Luke’s got them playing the right way and has a clear philosophy in how he wants his side to play.

“It’s a really intriguing game for me and it’s one which I’m hoping we can go there and keep our run going.”
