Obika Hails Gillingham Win

1 March 2017

Jon Obika felt Town were good value for their 3-1 victory against Gillingham on Tuesday night.

The Reds fell behind to a Cody McDonald goal but were always on top and roared back in the second-half thanks to strikes from Rohan Ince, Jon Obika and Raphael Rossi-Branco.

“I felt we stuck to our game plan from start to finish, kept the ball moving and we are glad to have come away with the victory,” Obika said.

“Going a goal down can hit the confidence but we kept to the game plan, Luke (Williams) galvanised us at half-time and we went out and showed why we deserved to win.

“Nicky (Ajose) did very well to spin it around the corner and I was able to move forward and get it into the goal.

“Nicky pulled Ryan Jackson to the left and it gave me time to set myself and get a clean strike on goal.

“We still need to work hard in taking more of our chances and we’ll be looking to do that against Chesterfield.

“Consistency is important and it is the right time to get the wins on the board.”

Obika also lavished praise on Rohan Ince after the midfielder produced another Man of the Match display last night.

“I know Rohan from our time at Brighton and he played a lot of games when I was there. He was always starting and you could see the quality he has,” he added.

“We always knew that he has got an engine and now he’s settled in nicely we’re seeing the real Rohan Ince.

“He’s a cover to the defence and he gives the front players the confidence to go out and express themselves.”
