Town striker Jon Obika is targeting more goals after opening his account for the season during the 2-1 defeat to Bury on Saturday.
After being limited to just three outings this term prior to the weekend due to injury, the frontman looked back to his best against the Shakers after putting in a lively display.
His efforts were rewarded too after being picked out by Sean Murray in the second-half before calmly picking his spot to notch his first goal of the season in some style.
Obika was thrilled to get off the mark on Saturday but was disappointed not to have been on the winning side.
“I thought we gave it our all and you could see that with the chances we created, but they just didn’t fall cleanly to any of us,” he reflected.
“Their keeper made a good save from Yaser (Kasim) but we’ve now just got to look forward to a big game on Tuesday and make sure we perform.
“As a striker you want to open your account as quickly as possible, but thinking of the team and how we performed, we need to get that first-half performance right.
“But, bar the result, it was good to get off the mark and open the account – I’ll definitely be looking to score a few more.
“The first goal settles you as a striker and you can then actually play your game and relax, especially in front of goal.”
Obika also reflected on his goal in the first-half against Bury, which was controversially ruled out for offside despite the striker clearly being onside.
“I thought I was onside but the referee or the lino gave it and then they must have gone with what they felt,” he added.
“Sometimes you get those decisions but we just had to go with it and try to get back in the game.
“At times when you see the defenders put their hands up you do wonder if you are onside or offside, but as a striker you try to follow the trail of the ball and try to tuck it in.
“You could see with our reaction that it was tough to take but this is football, these things happen and we just have to move on.”
