Obika Pleased To Pay Back The Fans With Oldham Win

25 September 2016

Striker Jon Obika was happy to have given the Town faithful something to cheer about following the 2-0 success at Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

The Reds arrived at Boundary Park off the back of three defeats on the bounce in the league, although they showed no signs of poor form after flying out of the traps against the Latics.

After firing plenty of early warning signs, Obika fired Town into the lead before Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill completed the scoring shortly after the break.

It was Town’s first away victory since February and lifted them to within six points off the top six in the process, and Obika felt it was the perfect way to thank the supporters following a tough couple of weeks.

“I feel that is a performance of bouncing back and we owed that to the fans after last week,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“Luke (Williams) and Ross (Embleton) have got us ready and credit to the boys.

“The performance matters and when we’re on song any team will find it hard to deal with us.

“I thought the boys dug in and it was good that we got the three points.

“Lawrence Vigouroux, the defenders and the midfielders did fantastically well and we’re all talking to each other and I feel that is the key to move on and keep getting those three points.

“It is important to get a run going and that is only going to spur on the boys to go game after game and get these complete performances.”

Obika’s second goal of the season came after what was a superb, flowing move by Town which featured no less than 17 passes, and the striker was full of praise for the work carried out by his team-mates in the build-up to his opener yesterday.

“The boys worked it well, found me and thankfully I put it in,” he continued.

“As a striker you always want to finish off the moves and by finishing off the move you can see how much the passing is clean and accurate, so hopefully there will be more to come.

“I’m just happy when I’m getting chances because I know I’m going to score. We’ve got a great team that provide and we work well together.

“It was good for Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill to get a goal as well. He’s come in and done very well and we’re looking forward to having all the boys back who are currently injured.”
