Parkin - Hall Of Fame Inclusion A Huge Honour

27 December 2016

January 2017.ndSwindon Town legend Sam Parkin will be inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame prior to our game against Southend United on Monday 2

The former striker scored 73 goals in 142 appearances for the Reds during three seasons at The County Ground and was a hugely popular figure with the Town faithful.

Ahead of his induction, Parkin has revealed his pride at being added to the club’s Hall of Fame which includes prestigious names in the ilk of Don Rogers, John Trollope, Fraser Digby and Paul Bodin.

“It is a huge honour and I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to work out that it was my most fruitful time as a footballer and as a striker, so they are brilliant memories,” he said.

“I’m a massive fan of football and even before my time at Swindon I was well aware of some of the legends at the football club and as my time unfolded at the football club I had the opportunity to meet people like Don Rogers, Fraser Digby, Paul Bodin, Kevin Horlock and people like that.

“To join that list of names is unbelievable for me.

“It is really hard to pinpoint just one or two memories because the whole three years was just a wonderful time.

“The manager instilled confidence in me from day one and scoring goals just seemed like the easiest thing in the world during those three years.

“It was a glorious time, I was in my early twenties, my family loved coming down, all my mates loved coming to games and it was just a brilliant, brilliant time.

“Swindon will be a big part of my life going forward, it will be a big part of my family’s life and my nephew still hasn’t picked up a team so I’m sure his allegiance may be to Swindon!

“It will be a big part of my life and it has been really nice to start a new career at a place where I’ve got such fond memories of.”
