PREVIEW: Walsall V Town

16 April 2017

Town will be on the lookout for a vital three-point haul when they make the short trip to Walsall on Easter Monday (3pm Kick-Off).

The Reds head to the Bescot Stadium tomorrow knowing that only a win will do as they look to climb out of the relegation zone with only three games of the 2016/17 campaign remaining.

Luke Williams’ side were held to a 0-0 draw by AFC Wimbledon on Good Friday while The Saddlers were forced to settle for a share of the spoils away at Shrewsbury Town.

Two wonder goals from Erhun Oztumer proved to be the difference when these two sides last met with Walsall running out 2-0 victors at The County Ground in October 2016.

STAT ATTACK:

Town and Walsall have done battle on 97 occasions in all competitions and the Reds are able to boast the better head-to-head record with 35 wins to their name, compared to The Saddlers’ 33.

TOWN - The Reds will assess the fitness of Nathan Thompson prior to tomorrow’s game, with the defender having missed the 0-0 draw with AFC Wimbledon because of a heel problem.

John Goddard should be fine to feature against Walsall despite sustaining a nasty cut to his head on Good Friday, while Town have no other fresh injury concerns ahead of their trip to the Bescot Stadium.

A WORD FROM THE TOWN CAMP:

Luke Williams, Swindon Town Head Coach: “Erhun Oztumer is a very, very talented player and his goals here were genuinely two of the best goals I’ve seen in the four years that I’ve been working in League One football.

“They were incredible.

“We have to be really mindful of him and make sure that we don’t give him even a half-chance.”

Conor Thomas, Swindon Town Midfielder: “It is so tight at the bottom and we just need to concentrate on ourselves. If we do get the wins we need then we will be fine.

“We’re taking it one game at a time and hopefully we will get it wrapped up as soon as possible.”
