REACTION: Williams - Rovers Deserved The Win

20 September 2016

Town Head Coach Luke Williams offered his post-match thoughts in the wake of his side’s 2-1 defeat to Bristol Rovers at The County Ground this evening…

ON THE RESULT AND PERFORMANCE:

“In the end they deserved to win the game because they were brave, they kept putting the ball forward, they kept fighting for everything, running for the flick-on and we didn’t match that.

“They deserved to win the game.

“You can’t keep just trying to hold on to a 1-0 lead for 85 minutes – it is impossible and it is a silly tactic for us in particular.

“We need to try to be with the ball more in order to defend with the ball and we didn’t do that.

“We looked like we wanted to hang on and in the end we could not do that.

“It could be after some bad results that there is now a lack of belief. We went 1-0 up and we looked very, very good in my opinion up until the goal and probably the minutes immediately afterwards.

“And then, slowly, slowly less belief and we got deeper trying to soak up the pressure and hold on to the lead, but it is too long to hold out for.”

ON BRAD BARRY’S INJURY:

“Bradley had a tweak in the hamstring and it was dangerous for him to play with that. It could have potentially made it worse so he was taken out of the squad.”

ON REPLACING JAMES BROPHY WITH BRANDON ORMONDE-OTTEWILL AT HALF-TIME:

“James was feeling sick at half-time and dizzy so we needed to make a change.”
