Rodgers Looks Ahead To Walsall Test

21 October 2016

Anton Rodgers is expecting a tough game against Walsall at The County Ground on Saturday (3pm) but is confident of getting the three points.

“Since I’ve been in professional football, Walsall have always been a tough team to play against and they are all honest boys,” he said.

“I’ve always enjoyed playing against them and they are a very good team. You always know you are in for a tough game.

“It would cap off a brilliant week if we could win but it is important we take it game-by-game.

“We need to stick to our game plan and we may have found a formula for us to get points and to get results.

“It is always a tough game against Walsall but we are hopeful of taking maximum points.”

Rodgers has played in a slightly deeper role in Town’s new-found 4-2-3-1 formation during the last two games, and the midfielder believes his side may have struck gold with their new system.

“The important thing is knowing your role and it was good to play with young Tom Smith the other night, who I thought was very good,” he added.

“I helped him through the game because the boss wanted two fours and it is about getting a winning formula.

“I don’t want to speak too early but we may have found our shape and how we are going to have to play.

“You always have a way that you would like to play and I’m sure there are many ways the boss would want to play, but we’ve maybe found a way that suits us right now.

“It is important we still get on the ball and still play and it is important we still play despite having found a new style.

“But we may have found a way that suits us right now so it is good.”
