Smith Looking Forward To Prospect Of Featuring Against Oxford

4 October 2016

Town midfielder Tom Smith is relishing the prospect of featuring against Oxford United this evening for the first time at senior level.

The talented youngster is in line to start against the Yellows at SN1 with the Robins looking to get the three points they need to secure their place in the knockout stages of the Checkatrade Trophy.

Having risen through the Academy ranks at the club, Smith doesn’t need any history lessons when it comes to Town v Oxford games and the 18-year-old admits it would be a dream come true to play tonight should he get the nod.

“I would love to be involved tonight. Coming through the system from U8s means playing against Oxford is in my system,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“I’ve played against them every single year and it is always a massive game for me, so to play against them at home would be a dream for me because I’ve never played Oxford at first-team level.

“It would be very good.

“I’m aware of the scores because I’ve been here a long, long time and I’ve watched previous games from many years ago.

“If I get the chance I’m sure I’ll put in what is needed.”

Smith produced a superb display in Town’s victory against Chelsea’s U23s in their Checkatrade Trophy opener last month, and the prospect was pleased with his personal performance on the night.

“It was a very good game and I didn’t really know I was starting until the day of the game,” he added.

“I came in, played the 90 minutes and I thought I did well.

“It was a different game but I thought I did well and it was a great game.”
