Smith Looks Ahead To Shrewsbury Trip

29 September 2016

Tom Smith feels Town are more than prepared heading into Saturday’s Sky Bet League One clash against Shrewsbury Town (3pm Kick-Off).

The Robins will be looking to bounce back when they head to the New Meadow Stadium having been on the receiving end of a 3-1 defeat to Northampton Town on Tuesday.

And Smith knows he and his team-mates have things to work on as they bid to return to winning ways this weekend.

“We’ve been looking at clips and analysing the game in terms of where we are going wrong and what we can put right,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“Today in training we were working on possession games and a bit of defensive work because there are things we need to tighten up in our performance.

“We’ve got tomorrow’s session where we’ll work on our shape.

“Shrewsbury will be energetic and they will probably press us knowing that we are a passing team.

“They are always going to have a game-plan but we just need to finish our chances and be the dominant team throughout.”

Smith has been on the fringes of the first-team this term, featuring on two occasions so far, and is determined to grasp his chance with both hands when it arises.

“For me it is about improving every year. Last year I did something that was very good with the goal (away at Crewe Alexandra), but this year it is about doing something special again and making my mark on the league again,” he continued.

“I want to do something that puts me in the squad and gets me another contract because football is a tough game and there is a fine line.

“You’ve got to work hard and put performances in during training and in games when you get the chance.

“As a young pro you get limited chances and that’s fine because you aren’t going to be in the starting line-up every week, so you’ve got to take your chance.”
