Tom Smith hailed the efforts of his team-mates following Town’s impressive 1-0 victory against Bradford City on Saturday.
Luke Williams’ side produced a resolute display to come out on top against the Bantams at SN1 yesterday and Smith feels the result and the performance could be a big turning point in the Robins’ season.
“It is just great to get the draw against Southend on Tuesday night and then turning up on Saturday against Bradford and getting a win,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.
“I thought we were excellent throughout and defensively we were very good.
“This is a stepping stone for what is to come.
“Hopefully we can get our flow and get many more wins because we looked solid out there. There were passages of play that were brilliant and defensively we looked a lot more solid.
“There were many occasions where the whole team put their body on the line.
“It is important for the boys now to get the rest we need because we’ve had a lot of games and it is important we go away, we do the right things and we come back for the Luton game all ready to go.
“We’ve got a lot of games coming up after the break so we need to be ready, we need to turn up and we need to make sure we carry on that momentum.”
Tom Smith replaced the injured Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill early in the second-half against the Bantams and filled in at left-back, producing a stellar performance despite having not played in that position before.
“When Brandon went down three of us went to warm-up and I wasn’t too sure what was happening,” he added.
“I then got the call that I was going on and Ross (Embleton) told me I was going left-back. I had to say to him a couple of times ‘am I going on left-back’ so I had to be reassured but I had to go on and do a job.
“I thought I went on and was solid back there and did the role.
“It just shows that I’m versatile and hopefully if I am needed in that situation again then I’ve proved that I can be thrown on and do a job.”
