Starkey - Town Move Is A Great Opportunity For Me

1 February 2017

New boy Jesse Starkey was over the moon to have secured a Deadline Day switch to Town and is now determined to grasp his opportunity with both hands.

Swindon wrapped up their Deadline Day business yesterday by bringing in the young midfielder, who joined from Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee.

Giving his first interview since putting pen to paper on an 18-month deal with the Reds, Starkey revealed that the chance to develop his career at SN1 was too good to turn down.

“I’m buzzing to be a Swindon player because it is a club that gives young players an opportunity to play and I’m really excited to get started,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“The Academy Manager at Brighton pulled me aside and said that Swindon had made an approach and did I want to go, and straightaway I said yes because I can’t wait to start playing first-team football.

“Swindon is a great club and it is a great opportunity for me.

“I’m aiming for starts and I want to play as much as I can this season. I just want to work hard in training and hopefully get an opportunity.

“I’m lucky because there’s a few ex-Brighton lads at Swindon and there’s quite a few ex-Chelsea lads there, which is nice and I know eight of the lads already.

“That will make it easier for me to go in there, feel relaxed and crack on straight away.

“I obviously know Rohan Ince as well and we played in the Checkatrade Trophy games together at Brighton this season and it is good to play alongside him because he’s a big, strong lad.

“It will be ideal to play alongside him.

“I’m just buzzing to get started.”

Starkey will link up with his new team-mates for the very first-time on Thursday morning and he’s looking forward to the prospect of being involved against Oxford United on Sunday.

“It is a good game to come into and I’ve had loads of messages on Twitter about that game – it is a massive game and I’m really excited to potentially be involved in it,” he added.

Finally, Jesse is a midfielder by trade and he went on to list his attributes and qualities.

“I like to go forward a lot and I’m an attacking midfielder rather than a holding midfielder,” he continued.

“I like to get on the ball and just make things happen. I can also play out on the left-wing and I feel comfortable in both positions.”
