Town midfielder Conor Thomas sat down with swindontownfc.co.uk to reflect on the 2-0 win at Oldham Athletic on Saturday and look ahead to Tuesday’s clash against Northampton Town at SN1…
ON THE VICTORY AGAINST OLDHAM:
“First and foremost, the result was massive coming off the back of a couple of defeats. Oldham is a tough place to go and they’ve got a good defensive record as well, so to go there and win, but to win the way we did was really pleasing for the players and the staff.
“It has given everyone a confidence boost and the way we played was really pleasing. It was 2-0 but it could have been a few more on the day.
“Getting the three points was vital for us. The fans have been great with us and we want to thank the fans who made the trek up there because it is a long way.
“To get the win at a tough place was really important and it has given the lads a big confidence boost.”
ON THE TWO GOALS AND THE CLEAN SHEET:
“Lawrence (Vigouroux) has been magnificent all season and at times we haven’t really given him a chance to have too many clean sheets with the penalties and other circumstances, so I was pleased for him to get his clean sheet.
“On the flip-side of that the two goals were what we are about and that’s how we want to play. It is credit to Luke (Williams), Ross (Embleton) and the coaching staff when it comes off like that.
“But we want that to be the first of many and we want to keep on improving. We’ll be looking to improve again and hopefully produce many more like that.”
ON HIS PERSONAL PERFORMANCE AGAINST OLDHAM:
“I thought I was alright and I thought I did a bit better in the second-half and got on the ball a bit more.
“The game opened up a bit in the second-half and it was a bit better for me to get on the ball a bit more.
“I’m just trying to be disciplined and do my job for the team, do what Luke wants of me and if the team does well collectively then I’m happy.
“I was pleased with the win more than anything.”
ON WHAT TO EXPECT FROM NORTHAMPTON TOWN:
“We know it is going to be a really difficult game. They have been on a really good run since they’ve been in the league, that has come from last season and they’ve just carried it on.
“They are an intense team and we’re not sure whether they will press or sit back, but we know whatever they do they will be a real test for us, so we’re going to have to be at 100% to get the win tomorrow.
“I’ve seen Matt Taylor from a dead ball situation and it is there for everyone to see how good he is. That combined with Alex Revell as well who has come back to haunt Swindon a few times – we’ll be doing our best to stop him tomorrow and sending him home not too happy.
“We’ve just got to be clever and try to avoid giving away needless free-kicks or corners as much as we can, but I’m sure in the game there will be times when we do give set-pieces away and then it’s just about being switched on, doing our jobs properly and winning your individual battle to win the game.
“The lads were all buzzing today and we’re really looking forward to the game tomorrow. It is going to be a tough test but one we’re looking to embrace.
“Hopefully we we can put on a good performance for the fans.”
