Thompson Looking To Finish 2016 With A Bang

30 December 2016

Town Captain Nathan Thompson is looking forward to tonight’s test away at MK Dons and is targeting a win to end a frustrating 2016 on a high note.

Luke Williams’ side head to Stadium MK later (7.45pm Kick-Off) for their final game of the year and Thompson is targeting all three points as he aims to help the Reds go on a run in the coming weeks.

“MK Dons are a team who always played well against us and they have a similar style to us, so it was an enjoyable match whenever we played them,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“They had a good year the last time we played them and they have some very talented players.

“You look at the squad they’ve got now and it is still full of big names, so it will be a good test tonight.

“They are obviously not in a position they want to be at this moment in time but neither are we so it should be a good evening.

“You always see a team respond when a new manager comes in - players are naturally looking to impress and looking to stay in the team.

“It will be a tough game and you only have to look at their frontline and players like Nicky Maynard and Kieran Agard.

“It will be tough but one we need to win to get our season back on track because the first-half of the season has been a waste and non-existent.

“We’ve got a lot of games in a short space of time as well so you can build some momentum and if we can pick up some points tonight then we’ll go into the game against Southend on Monday with renewed confidence.

“We’ve been working hard and making sure that the errors we made on Boxing Day have been put to bed and we can hopefully pick up three points on the road tonight.”

Thompson has been back in the thick of the action for the last two games after being sidelined with a hamstring injury for a period of time, and the skipper feels he is slowly getting back to his best.

“It is nice to be back out there and until this injury it had been a relatively injury free year, so it was frustrating to pick up that knock right at the end of the year,” he added.

“I’ve been back out there and played two lots of 90 minutes, my fitness is back and I’m not too far away from hopefully returning to the sort of form I was enjoying before my injury.”
