Tim Sherwood Appointed As Town's New Director Of Football

10 November 2016

Following today’s press conference at The County Ground, Swindon Town are delighted to announce Tim Sherwood as the club’s new Director of Football.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa boss, who achieved a 59.1% win ratio whilst in charge of Spurs, will assist Head Coach Luke Williams in the running of the first-team at SN1 and will take training alongside Williams and First-Team Coach Ross Embleton, in addition to having a say in transfers.

Speaking about joining Town, Sherwood said: “I’ve had other offers but this is an interesting project that I’ve had a close eye on for four years since I started loaning players into this football club,” he told the assembled media.

“Luke Williams is at the football club because of me, he was my recommendation, I came across him in the development phase of the game and I recommended him to Lee (Power).

“I think he is a very good coach and I think he’s got a lot more to come. I’m just coming in to help out wherever I can.

“I think it needs tweaking, possibly the style of play at times, they play some lovely stuff and they have done that over the years, but sometimes we might need to flip the page a little bit and show a different way to play.

“I think I can give him a helping hand with that.

“I like this club and I’ve got a soft spot for it.”

Town Chairman Lee Power was thrilled to have brought Sherwood into the fold and believes his arrival is a huge coup for the club.

“We’ve managed to acquire one of the top young English managers and his role at the football club is going to be Director of Football, which will include heading up the football department in all aspects at Swindon Town,” he said.

“We’re still in shock that we’ve managed to get Tim to take it on.

“He will head up all aspects – that will be transfers, that will be the way that we play, the formations and the picking of the team.

“Luke Williams is still our Head Coach and he’s a top, top coach – that will continue.

“Tim will be taking training and working alongside Luke Williams and Ross Embleton.

“This is probably the biggest appointment the club has made in a long, long time.”

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR A FULL INTERVIEW WITH TIM SHERWOOD SHORTLY.
