VIDEO: Thompson Previews Coventry City Test

24 February 2017

Town Captain Nathan Thompson believes confidence is high in the dressing room ahead of their crunch showdown against Coventry City this weekend.

Luke Williams’ side head to the Ricoh tomorrow (3pm) for a key clash in the battle for survival in the Sky Bet League One.

The Reds put a stop to their losing run last weekend after playing out a 0-0 draw with Oldham Athletic, although they were extremely unlucky not to take all three points such was their dominance in the game.

And Thompson feels that impressive performance has helped to lift spirits at The County Ground this week and he’s confident of his team’s chances against the Sky Blues tomorrow.

“Tomorrow’s game and the games against Gillingham, Chesterfield and Port Vale are all huge games in terms of six-pointers,” he told Town’s Official YouTube Channel exclusively.

“They are teams that are in and around us and if we can pick up maximum points then it really does start to alleviate some of those fears.

“We’re going into the Coventry game with renewed confidence after last Saturday – I thought it was an excellent performance overall and we didn’t get the goal but on the whole it was a very, very good performance.

“It has definitely lifted the group.

“At this time of the year it is about the results but if the performances are there and if we can match the same performance as last weekend then I have no doubts that we can turn those draws into wins.

“It is a big game tomorrow and Coventry are coming off the back of their first win under their new manager and it is up to us to impose our game plan on them early on in the match and dominate like we did last weekend.

“They will go into the game with renewed confidence but if we can dominate and score early then I look forward to seeing their reaction to that.

“It is all about us and it is all in our hands. We need to dig deep and the pitch at Coventry isn’t great and we know it will be a bit of a leveller, but we need to roll up our sleeves and get stuck right in.”
