Town Head Coach Luke Williams is expecting a hugely difficult test away at Scunthorpe United on Saturday (3pm), but has challenged his players to spring a surprise and upset the form book.
The Reds have made the long trip up north today ahead of tomorrow’s game against the Sky Bet League One leaders at Glanford Park, and Williams believes his players will be spurred on by the fact that the Iron are favourites for the encounter.
“It doesn’t get any easier but we’ve been coupon busters in the past and we’ve got results when nobody thought we would,” he said.
“We will go there fully determined to come away with at least something and we want to come back with all the points, but we will try to give a very good account of ourselves and be difficult to play against.
“We’ll see where that takes us.
“We want to try and go against what everyone thinks is going to happen and see if we can come back with something.
“It adds motivation to us.
“There has clearly been a long-term goal that has been put in place at Scunthorpe and they’ve got a very good manager.
“He’s being backed, they’ve brought in some very good players and it looks like they are going to keep hold of their best players from last season and they’ve added.
“They are very organised. I’ve seen them play and I can see why they are at the top – they deserve to be at the top.
“They play very quickly with a very high tempo and they are just a very good football team. They are a club that are going about things in a very well thought out fashion and they are now getting the rewards for planning long-term.”
