Williams - Justice Has Been Served

7 February 2017

Town Head Coach Luke Williams feels that the right decision has been made following the news that Lawrence Vigouroux’s red card was overturned earlier today.

The in-form keeper – who has kept eight clean sheets so far this season and produced a string of superb displays – was shown a straight red card in the dying minutes of the Reds' 2-1 defeat to Oxford United on Sunday.

Vigouroux was adjudged to have brought down Yellows’ striker Kane Hemmings on the edge of the penalty area, although video footage after the game clearly showed that no contact was made between the two players.

And, after reviewing the evidence earlier today, The FA have now ensured that Vigouroux will be available for Saturday’s trip to Bury by rescinding the red card, leaving Williams thrilled.

“It is justice because he actually didn’t make contact with the player and, even if he had done so, I felt Lloyd Jones was in a covering position,” he told swindontownfc.co.uk.

“It should never have been a straight red.

“Justice has been done.

“Lawrence is really important to us and as much confidence as we have in Will Henry, it is a very difficult time for a young goalkeeper to come into the side.

“Lawrence is still young himself but he’s been through a hell of a lot already and I think we’re going to need him in this period.”
