Williams - We Were Unlucky Not To Take All Three Points

17 December 2016

Town Head Coach Luke Williams gave his reaction to the local press in the wake of the Reds’ 1-1 draw at home to Fleetwood Town…

ON THE RESULT AND PERFORMANCE:

“We should take confidence from that performance because I think we did enough to win the game and we can build on that.

“It was difficult to concede because you want to start to really impose yourselves and then the opposition struck back and took the wind out of our sails a bit, but we did enough to warrant winning the game.

“We were creating good chances, we just needed to get the ball over the line and we would have gone on to win the game.

“Michael Doughty has taken a lot of penalties and scored for us, but whether or not he just overthought about it and thought about changing it, but if he hits it well like he normally does then it will probably go in. Every player can miss a penalty, even a player with as much quality as Michael.

“Credit to the keeper because it is not just about the guy taking the strike, it is about the goalkeeper reading and making the save.”

ON LUKE NORRIS’ FIRST LEAGUE GOAL FOR TOWN:

“Hopefully it is going to be the start of many more goals and he took it extremely well like a proper number nine. Hopefully we’re going to see that more often.”

ON JERMAINE HYLTON’S IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY:

“Tim Sherwood has tried to help the team to know how to play to Jermaine’s strengths and that was evident today.

“He put the work in during the week and it really paid off.

“The tactics through the week that Tim explained to the players to try and get Jermaine running at people and to use his pace and his ability to change his direction to make it very difficult for big, heavy athletes to keep up with him and that’s exactly what happened.

“We saw him get away from people and put crosses in, we saw him twist and turn for the penalty and that worked perfectly.”

ON SEAN MURRAY REPLACING ANTON RODGERS AT HALF-TIME:

“It was just to get some balance because Anton and Yaser Kasim seemed to get in each other’s way a little bit. We put another attacking option in-front of one pivot man to see if we could attack more and that worked as well.”

ON BRANDON ORMONDE-OTTEWILL’S INJURY:

“I still haven’t had a chance to see him yet but it appears that he ended up off the pitch and even hit the advertising board. Hopefully it is nothing more than superficial.”
