Bessone Departs

31 December 2012

MANAGER Paolo Di Canio has revealed that defender Federico Bessone has left the club and will not receive an extension to his short-term contract.

“Bessone has already travelled back,” he said. “He already asked me to go back because he knows that the contract has finished. Jay (McEveley) is back and we don’t need to keep him.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, the Italian discussed the situation for players out on loan and for those who are currently on loan at SN1.

“For the others there is nothing sure. There is not a situation at the moment where we can say ‘we definitely want to keep him’ or ‘definitely we don’t want to keep him’. I am happy because I know I can work in a way to keep someone that is already here.

“For the players out on loan, I heard that Paul Benson is happy to stay at Portsmouth. We are more than happy to make him happy but we need to ask whether Portsmouth can keep him. It would be good for him and everybody.

“(Lee) Cox will maybe have the chance to stay at Oxford, Oliver Risser we don’t know yet we have had no answer from Stevenage and with Luke Rooney we will see. For the others here I want to keep them. To be honest, in this moment, if I had the chance I would keep everybody.”
