Cooper: We Had To Be Patient

2 September 2015

MARK Cooper says that Town had to be patient in order to land both Nicky Ajose and Wes Thomas.

The Swindon boss told the official website that their additions to the squad give him more options in finding the right blend for Town's attacking unit.

"I'm delighted," he smiled. "He, along with Wes Thomas, were the ones that, if there was any chance we could get them, we had to be patient. There were a lot of clubs after him and he had to get an agreement with Leeds to leave his contract. The thing with Nicky is that we know he’s not a gamble; we know him, we know how professional he is and he’s got a terrible habit of scoring goals for Swindon. It gives us more options in the final third of the pitch which is what we’ve been lacking a little."

Cooper then reflected on the transfer window and declared that he was happy with Town's business over the course of the summer.

He explained: "We don’t want to lose players like Nathan Byrne but we understand that, if our club gets a bid like that and he’s in the last year of his contract then we have to do business. Good luck to Nathan. We’re delighted with the business we’ve done. We’ve shown, again, that we can do business in the right way."
