Speaking to COYR last week, the former Town frontman was delighted that the newest facility at the CG had been named after him. “It's a great honour,” he said. “I have loved English football since I was a kid and I will always remember the great feeling flying into Heathrow knowing I soon would be a Premier League player. Swindon, the fans and The County Ground where it all started, will always have a special place in my heart.
“I remember my first goal against Tottenham and a brilliant day playing against Manchester United where I also scored,” he continued. “Of course, The County Ground was the first take- off for the Airplane celebration that has followed me since. Even after I ended my career, the great people in and around the stadium make me proud of being a part of Swindon Town's history.”
The ex-Norway international, now a television presenter, was also impressed with the current Town vintage.
“I watched the game against Chelsea on the television,” he said. “I was impressed by the way the team tried to play and pass the ball. I expect the team to get to the Play-Offs this season. I still look out for Swindon’s results. I do have some former clubs and I follow them all through live updates – mostly on my phone when I am sitting in a German TV studio on Saturdays.”
“These days, I run my own communications company. Half of my time is taken up with TV work: Champions League matches for a Norwegian channel and German Bundesliga for Sky Germany. The rest of the time I am an advisor/strategist for other companies as well as being the Foreign Minister for the Norwegian FA. So, of course, football is still a big part of my life.”
