Ling: A Big Three Points

24 November 2015

TOWN manager, Martin Ling spoke to the media after Town's 2-1 win over Walsall.

On the win...
If I'm totally honest, I don’t think we played very well. It was backs against the wall against a good Walsall side but what I give my players credit for is that they stuck at it and battled. It was not perfect but a perfect result. We got a footballing lesson in my opinion and they’ll be very disappointed to go away with nothing because they were the better side. Dean Smith will go away disappointed. When you’re fighting down the bottom three points is very big for us tonight.

On the performance...
The fluid football and passing we want - sometimes we have to come off a couple of battling results. Today we had a bit of a footballing lesson but durability and sticking with it, I give my players credit. Jon stuck his (goal) away well and so did Louis but it was on the breakaway. We were chasing the ball for most of the night. Tonight we didn’t pass it well but got three points. The hardest place to pass the ball is when youre in the bottom four. It's easy when things are going well - passing is easier with confidence. The philosophy doesn’t change but we feel we might have to see a couple of those types of performance before we see the free flowing stuff.

On Louis Thompson...
He was good tonight, Louis - his energy is important to us. You know what you get with Louis. He was outstanding tonight.

On Chesterfield at the weekend...
We hope to take confidence from today’s result into Saturday’s game. Rapha (Branco) is suspended so that will mean a change of system. That’s something we have to work on.
