Milk Cup Diary: Day Two

29 July 2014

SWINDON needed to take some of the positives from their first game against Southampton into their second game against Chilean side, Santa Marta, writes Jeremy Newton.

Swindon made one change from yesterday's game, with Jayden Mitchell coming in for Sam Beaumont.

Town started very brightly and got into a good rhythm with more passes and more possession. This proved the difference when right back Jack Stanley was picked out in a forward position to slide the ball into the net following a defensive mix-up on six minutes. Swindon doubled the lead when Scott Twine was put through and rounded the 'keeper to make it 2-0. Swindon then went in to maintain the ball and move the ball well at times and scored again on 19 minutes. A set piece from captain Callum Gunner was put in for Twine to flick on and Albi Hopkins was there to score his second of the tour to make it 3-0. Swindon controlled the remainder of the half and went into the break 3-0 up.

Following the second half, we carried on where we left off and then Scott Twine was awarded a penalty for a trip in the box. Jordan Young slotted the spot kick to the 'keepers left to make it 4-0. Swindon made some changes: Luke Haines and Alex Hallett made their tournament debuts, replacing Jordan Young and Harry Hillerby respectively. Swindon continued to create chances but the fifth goal wouldn't come. Ollie Rejek, Sam Beaumont and Ullas Akkus all came on get some minutes and replaced Jack Stanley, Jordan Morris, and Scott Twine.

Swindon go into their last game of the group stages with a game against County Antrim at 12 noon tomorrow.
