TOWN wrapped up their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 home reverse to a strong Liverpool side.

The home side's first opportunity of the game came in the 6th minute when Nathan Byrne’s corner was cleared to the edge of area. The ball was met by Drissa Traore who leathered a shot into the Stratton Bank.

The visitors’ starting strike partnership of Christian Benteke and Roberto Firminio were also involved early on at the other end when the latter teed up the former for a shot but the Belgian was brilliantly denied by trialist stopper, Lawrence Vigouroux.

The stopper was busy again moments later when Lucas tried his luck from the edge of the box but saw his shot well saved.

Jermaine Hylton’s curling effort was well held by Adam Bodgan before Emre Can’s rasping drive whistled just over the crossbar.

Just three minutes into the second half, it was Liverpool who hit the front in spectacular fashion. Benteke brought a ball down on his chest some 20 yards from goal before drilling home on the volley past Vigouroux.

Moments later, he could have doubled his tally but scooped a shot over the bar from six yards after being picked out by a right wing cross.

Just after the hour mark, Town levelled matters through Jon Obika. The ball was fed across to the striker who had taken up a position just inside the right-hand edge of the box. He looked up and curled a left-footed shot beyond Bogdan and into the corner of the net.

Substitute Anton Rodgers clipped a dipping free-kick onto the roof of the net before the visitors claimed victory late on.

Seyi Ojo, a second-half substitute for Liverpool, brought down a pass in a position on the right of the area. His thunderous effort was pawed into the air by Vigouroux but the stopper couldn't quite get enough on the shot to push it away from danger and the ball looped into the far corner.
