Christened with a new song by Town’s travelling contingent at Newport that made references to his recent run of spectacular finishes, the midfielder admits that he was pleased to hear the song at Rodney Parade.
“It’s good to hear the fans sing my name,” he smiled. “Obviously getting a few goals now which, technically, is good for me but that’s the sort of player I am. I’ve worked hard on my technique ever since I was young so it’s good to hear the fans recognise that.
“That (assists) is what I look to do as well. It’s all about helping the team and contributing. If I can score a goal or set up a goal that’s helping the team so it’s part of the job being on the field.”
Rodgers reflected on Town’s recent results and admitted that Swindon will face a stern test when they travel to Crewe Alexandra this weekend.
“The performances have been good,” he said. “We were unlucky to get the result against Sheffield United but we put in a positive performance the other night which gives us momentum going into Crewe. The boys are looking forward to it.
“It’s going to be a tough game – there are no easy games. They’re known for trying to play too so we know we’re in for a tough game. As long as we work hard on the training field and worry about our performance, it should be a positive result.”
