Thompson: Humbled by the Support

18 January 2016

NATHAN Thompson admits that he was humbled by the reception he received from Town’s supporters on Saturday afternoon.

The Town skipper made his return to action as a second half substitute against Crewe Alexandra following a lengthy injury lay-off and says that he was delighted to be on the field of play once again.

“The fans were incredible,” he told STFC PlayerHD. “I could hear a little ripple as I was warming up but when I was stood on the touchline waiting to come on it made the hairs stand up. (I was) extremely humbled by the support.

“It was something that I’ve been thinking about for a long, long time. It was 16 weeks ago since I last stepped on the pitch so it’s been a frustrating couple of months but I’m absolutely chuffed to be back out there."

He added. “The injury was fine. It’s a shock to the system going on so late in the game where Crewe were chasing and we were chasing - it was extremely open. Once the adrenaline wore off, I settled down a bit and it just felt lovely to be back out there.”
