Town sign El Gabas

31 August 2013

TOWN have this evening completed the signing of Egyptian striker, Mohammed El Gabas.

The front man has signed a deal  until 1st January, 2014 with a further option of 18 months.

After watching Swindon’s 5-0 win over Crewe at The County Ground, the front-man was delighted to have put pen to paper.

“It’s a nice town, it’s a family club where everyone knows each other,” he said. “I’ve heard about the club’s history before I came. They’re trying to get to the Championship - this is a good ambition and I hope I can help them.

“Today was a very good performance from the guys. I must have good luck that I come here and they win 5-0! It’s an important win for sure.

“I started my career in Egypt and was playing professional in Port Said. I went to Newcastle Academy at 17 when Glenn Roeder was Academy Manager. They wanted to give me professional contract but I needed a work permit. When I came back to Egypt I played for three years in the First Division. When I was 21, Lierse in Belgium bought me and I was there for the past four years.”

El Gabas then went on to describe his style of play.

He said: “I’m not a big target striker like Zlatan Ibrahimovic for example. I’m more like Thierry Henry or  David Villa who can run in the space and try to make it hard for defenders by running in the space. I can also play as a winger on both sides.”
