Williams on Millwall, team news & committing to STFC

11 March 2016

LUKE Williams hopes that his side can put on a better performance against Millwall at the weekend compared to when the two sides met at the Den earlier in the season.

On that occasion, a Town team depleted by injuries were beaten 2-0 by the London side and the Head Coach recalled a difficult day for the club back in October.

“It was very tough for everybody involved,” he told the media. “We had plenty of injuries and we weren’t in good form going to Millwall but not only - that they’re a good side and they really tested us and found all the weaknesses in the team that day. I hope we’re in better shape at the moment and we can put on a much more competitive performance.

“They’re in very good shape under Neil and it’s a team that he himself would enjoy playing in because they create plenty of opportunities. They try and put the ball in the box a lot and they play very quickly through the pitch so I think they’ve got as good a chance as any of securing a place in the Play-Offs.”

On team news ahead of Saturday’s clash with the Lions, he added: “All very healthy, very good. We’re probably still carrying bits and pieces but nothing serious enough to rule anyone out, really.”

Installed as the Town’s full-time Head Coach on a brand new, five-year deal earlier this week, Williams declared that he was relishing the task ahead of him.

“I’m looking forward to trying to help Swindon to progress and hopefully get out of the division in that time period,” he said. “I hope people can see that I’m totally committed to Swindon. I'd like to think I've shown that (commitment) and I've shown I'm very committed and I'm very happy to be at Swindon.

“The most important thing for me was that the Chairman was totally happy with everything. To be given full backing made the decision very easy for me. It has been tough but I think everything you do in life if you take a step forward is tough. If you do that and you take that step you want people to back you and support you and that’s what I’ve had.”
