Williams: We Could Have Controlled Game Even More

1 March 2016

LUKE Williams spoke to the media after Town’s 2-0 win over Doncaster.

On the home win…
(I thought it was a) Comfortable (win) at home because we got two goals in front but I think Doncaster made it difficult. We didn’t feel completely comfortable. They really tried to rush, us press us and force us into mistakes. We could have controlled the game even more especially when Doncaster go down to ten men and control it 30 yards higher up the pitch. That’s easier said than done when the other team are pressing and chasing but that’s something we’ve got to work on.

On the clean sheet…
I sensed towards the end that the fans were a bit impatient but we're trying to make sure we keep that clean sheet we’ve been searching for.

On chances created…
We created good, clean chances to score so if we’d come in without being in front we would have felt disappointed. We don’t want to be one dimensional. We’ve spoken about being a team that will have a lot of the ball but if a team comes to attack us there’s a threat on the break.  We try to condition the players so they're ready for modern football which is explosive at times. You can see they can at any moment explode away and be very difficult to catch. We’ve got explosive players and they're conditioned to play that kind of football.

On Jon Obika's contribution...
Im glad. We've been trying to convince Jon that he gives us so much. As a stiker you want to score and it's fantastic to see him on the scoresheet.

On squad rotation...
We’ve got to look at the block of games we’ve got and to use the players in the squad. To have the same midfielders in there (every game) would be foolish when you can see the talent we’ve got. To be able to bring Fabien (Robert) and Louis (Thompson) in for half an hour is a real sign of a strong squad.

On injuries...
We’re managing Louis. We feel we’ve taken a responsible step forward easing him back in. Jermaine (Hylton) had a personal issue during the week. Everything is fine now. There’s a good chance he’ll be back part of the squad (on Saturday). It's difficult for him when Nicky and Jon's performances are so good but we know he’s a talented boy. I could see Nathan Thompson wincing and a few of the boys getting a message across to me. Eventually I had to take the decision away from him because otherwise he’d play on. It’s nothing too serious - it’s precautionary.

Looking ahead to the next few games...
It’s going to tell us a great deal. First and foremost we need to make sure we know we’re going to be in the division for sure and there's no chance of relegation. After that we can start assessing where we are and this month things will become a little bit clearer.
