Is it only seven days ago that I was writing about two defeats in a row, and a difficult trip to Brighton to come…?

Well, as in politics, what a difference a week makes - and what a week. Firstly a trip to the seaside, or is it the Withdean? A pig of a journey, and a freezing cold afternoon, but a great win.

It wasn't a great game to commentate on, but a great goal by Charlie and a great performance by the likes of Mark Marshall, Stephen Darby and Phil Smith. In fact the whole squad takes great credit for a vital three points.

Three days later, and a repeat journey along the coast road from Exeter to Southampton. It was a lovely day and I was looking forward to a great game - and just how great a game became clear later.

Charlie Austin

I've been watching Swindon since 1967, and truly great nights are few and far between, but this was one of them.

21,000 fans, over 2,000 from Swindon, great atmosphere, fantastic match…drama, tension, great goalkeeping, heroic defending, and a wonderful goal by that man Austin.

It was a privilege to be doing the commentary from St. Mary's, and it goes down as one of the highlights of my career, along with THAT Leeds match earlier this season.
Quite what it means come the end of the season, remains to be seen.

But I do know that every Town fan was as proud as punch on Tuesday, and will be trying to remember that feeling at the final whistle…if only you could put it in a bottle, you'd sell millions of pounds worth.

Alan McLoughlin celebrates the 1990 Play-Off Final win with Ossie Ardiles

It was my pleasure to be working with Town great Alan McLoughlin at St. Mary's. Recently voted to be part of Swindon's all time greatest team, he knows a thing or two about the game.

Alan thought it was the best match he'd seen all season, and he's been watching Portsmouth in the Premier League……ok, I take your point, but still a great accolade.

And so to Norwich on Saturday.....

It seems a long time ago that we travelled to Carrow Road to suffer that narrow defeat. A lot of water and snow, has flowed since then, but one thing's for sure, Swindon ARE genuine promotion contenders.

What a week, what a season, and what a pleasure to be enjoying it.....

Till next week
