Every Friday, Town Assistant Peter Shirtliff keeps you up to date with the week's goings on at The County Ground.

This week, he reflects on the effects of a hard earned draw at Huddersfield, and chronicles Town's preparation for consecutive home matches.........

Firstly I apologise for the lack of an entry last week - the lengthy trip up to Huddersfield started early on Friday morning and I didn't have much chance to compile anything.

But as far as this week is concerned, the lads have recovered well from the game last weekend, and have looked bright ahead of two home games in a very short space of time.

It was a decent day's training on MONDAY and we got the lads moving fairly early on after what was a tough game last Saturday.

They looked very good in training after the weekend. The players had come through the test at The Galpharm Stadium pretty well and while there's always that little bit of fatigue to be shaken out of them at the start of the week, I was pleased with how they looked.

There was a reserve game scheduled on TUESDAY against Exeter, but it was subsequently cancelled which was disappointing because it would have been good for some of the lads to get a game.

The lads who were in the reserves just reported for the game at 3pm, so we only had about 12 who actually trained. With it being a smaller number you've got to be careful of how you train because they're actually doing more in a shorter time.

But it was a pretty intense if not completely full on session and Dave Morrison got a bit more in than he usually could, but it's just a matter of being sensible and keeping them ticking over really.

Both Simon Ferry and Scott Cuthbert sat out training in the early part of the week because they picked up knocks at Huddersfield, but they have recovered and should be ok for the weekend after doing a good bit of rehab work in the gym together.

With the players off on WEDNESDAY, I had some time off myself, and went for a walk in the countryside with my wife which was a nice break from it all.

There were very few games available for us to go and watch scouting wise so I expect Danny had did a similar thing to me!

We worked on a few more specific things on THURSDAY that we think we need to improve on from the last few games.

Danny and I have identified a few things we can do better with from recent performances, which hopefully we can take into the game this weekend, and if we can do that I think it will just give us an edge.

I'm expecting the conditions at the training ground to be fairly heavy on FRIDAY because we've had a lot of rain and sleet recently, so it will have to be a light session with a bit of preparation and fine tuning for tomorrow's game with Carlisle United.

Shirtliff on Town's 'Two Games for £25' offer

Tomorrow will be a tough game for us because Carlisle have done reasonably well in recent weeks, and only narrowly lost to Huddersfield on Tuesday night so will be pretty confident.

I've been pleased with the way we've been playing recently, but I'd like us to start keeping a few more clean sheets and with that I think we'd look even stronger as an outfit than we do already.

The club are offering fans the chance to see both this weekend's game with Carlisle and next Tuesday's against Stockport for a combined price of £25 which I think is excellent.

It would be great to see fans take up this offer and come along and support us in the same way they have done against Leeds and Charlton in recent weeks, and I'd love to see them continue to back us like they have done all season.

Six points from these next two games would certainly not do us any harm, but it's important to note there is a long way to go and it is too early to be speculating about where we're going to finish, so we've just got to keep chipping away and see where it takes us - starting with the Carlisle match on Saturday.

See you there,

Peter Shirtliff
