A day later than usual, Town Assistant Peter Shirtliff analyses the past week, and looks forward today's clash with Brighton & Hove Albion at The Withdean Stadium......

It's only a few hours before kick off in our match against Brighton, and here's how we've prepared for the game throughout the week:

On MONDAY it was pretty much a case of picking the boys up from the defeat on Saturday and then preparing for the game at MK.

It was a strange game against Rovers because we didn't play that badly in actual fact, but every little chance they got seemed to fly in. But that just happens sometimes and you've got to get on with it.

The players were ok in training, but they're not used to losing like that so it was a bit difficult to start with, but by the end of the session they'd come round and were looking forward to the game on TUESDAY.

Unfortunately we didn't get off to the greatest of starts in the game at MK and even though we played ok again, we couldn't get anything out of the game.

We gifted them two goals and once you get in that situation it's hard to come back from as we found out, and you just can't give teams a start like that because it's a battle all the way from then on.

Danny and I contemplated getting the boys in for training on WEDNESDAY but there was a reserve game at The County Ground, and we were late back from MK so we decided against it.

The reserves played well and had a good result against Swansea, and we saw the younger lads playing well alongside some of the more experienced players which was encouraging.

The boys looked bright and sharp in training on THURSDAY as they'd seemingly got over the defeats and are very eager to put it right again.

We worked on a couple of specific things with regard to how we expect Brighton to play, and the lads responded well to what we were telling them, so I'm confident we can do well at Brighton , though I'm sure they'll give us a tough test because they are an ever improving side.

FRIDAY started in a quite a hilarious manner, as I was present to see off Jeremy Wray, Nick Watkins, Chris Tanner and Adam Wainwright as they began their trip to Brighton.

The Town bikers set off at 7.30am

It was funny to see them in all their gear but in all seriousness it is a great cause they're doing it for, and I hear they are getting close now so it'll be a fantastic achievement once it's done - even though they'll be feeling somewhat worse for wear by the time they get here I would imagine!

We got a decent session done in the morning and worked on a bit of team play regarding the way we think Brighton are going to play, then jumped on the coach for stress free trip down to the coast!

In terms of the game today, I'm expecting it to be difficult, because having watched Brighton a few times recently - especially in the 0-0 draw against Colchester on Monday - it is clear that they like to get the ball down and play football, which was especially impressive on Monday considering the terrible pitch at Colchester.

We are expecting a tough game and the players know that, and we will have to earn the right to play early on in the match, rather than being sloppy like we were at MK.

We've got to be tighter than that, especially against Brighton as they are such a dangerous side going forward.

But as I said earlier, they are hurting after the two recent defeats and they are very keen to put things right, so hopefully we can bounce back with a good performance against Brighton because I'd like to see the players' reaction to this disappointment.

It is imperative that we show a bit of character and turn it round at what it now a crucial stage of the season.

See you at the game,

Peter Shirtliff
