Every week, Town Assistant Peter Shirtliff keeps you updated on the week's goings on at The County Ground.
This week, he looks back on a week spent training, making phonecalls and unearthing some hidden talents among STFC staff.....
There are a few things for me to get through this week, not least the dramatic equaliser we snatched against Norwich at the weekend.
It was pretty high octane stuff on Saturday, and I think a draw was a fair result considering the way both sides played on the day, which made for a really even game between two good teams, and the boys were in an excellent mood going into the week's training schedule.
There were two games of note that took place on MONDAY, one between Leeds United and Millwall at Elland Road, and one between Swindon Town Staff and Acorn Press at Fairford Town's ground!
I rolled back the years a bit and played at centre back alongside club photographer Lawrence Smith, and I'd like to think we were pretty formidable back there, although to be fair it wasn't a vintage performance from Mr Shirtliff!

We had some classic performances from a few others, and Website Editor Chris Smith was particularly impressive as he pulled the strings behind the front two.
We ended up winning 6-2 with five goals from Centre of Excellence Skills Coach Sean Wood, and a penalty from Paul Bodin.
I can't really decide whether the Leeds result was good for us or not to be honest, and I guess only time will tell, but there's one thing for sure, and that's that we can only affect our form and our games.
Whilst other results are obviously of concern, I'm a great believer in just concentrating on what you can affect, and that is your own performances and results.

I thought I would feel as stiff as a board on TUESDAY I have to say, but I was unexpectedly alright which was a pleasant surprise!
I went along to the reserve game against Exeter in the afternoon, and even though we lost 4-3 I thought the boys put on a reasonable show, and it was good to see the likes of Kevin Amankwaah and Michael Timlin get 90 minutes under their belts.
Young Matt Ritchie got a hat trick as well which was pleasing, and he has been full of beans since that!
The boy has got a good football brain and he can adapt to wherever he plays and he looks raring to go at the moment which is excellent.

Danny and I had a get together on WEDNESDAY with the players off, and tried to sign a couple of players.
We thought we'd got one of our targets but unfortunately it hasn't materialised which is a bit disappointing but that's football: you think you've got somebody and then a problem occurs and it doesn't happen, but rest assured it's not for the want of trying!
Although it was a shame we couldn't get anyone in, we're both happy with the squad we've got here and I'm confident those players can take us forward into the run in of the season.
The players were full of good spirits on THURSDAY and looked ready for the trip to Hartlepool at the weekend.

They worked really hard in training, and really had a good go during what was quite a short but intense session where we worked on a few bits and pieces for the weekend.
It's a long old trek up to Hartlepool on FRIDAY, so we'll give Pete the driver a break and stop off at Barnsley's training ground and try and nail a few final things down for Saturday's game while Pete has a bit of a break.
Training en route worked pretty well when we went to Huddersfield a few weeks ago so hopefully that'll be the case again, and with Barnsley having been a Premiership club pretty recently their facilities will be really good.

When Danny and I were there a few years ago they were just developing their training area and I've heard it's very good so we're looking forward to using what will hopefully be a really nice surface there.
At Hartlepool it's not going to be a 12,000 crowd there like we've played in front of in recent weeks, and who knows what the atmosphere will be like?
We've got to make sure it doesn't affect us, and we've got to put a positive slant on it, because it's a tight little ground and can be quite intimidating, but we've just got to put that aside and work hard for the points - which I'm confident we can do.
See you there,

Peter Shirtliff
