We've had a great week's preparation for the final tomorrow, and everybody's been in excellent form.

We managed to settle them down pretty soon after the events at Charlton last Monday, which seems like years ago now as I'm sure you'll agree!

They had a nice little break in the week after that game, and looked very fresh going into the beginning of this week, and the preparation for Wembley.

I think giving them that break was crucially important, not least because they'd played over two hours of pretty intense stuff against Charlton and quite frankly needed it!

It was emotionally draining for both the players and staff on Monday, and it was a nice couple days for us to recharge our batteries as well to be honest!

It worked brilliantly because they looked very sharp in training and were really looking forward to the final.

The biggest issue was always going to be how to avoid getting any little niggly injuries before the big day, because it would have been a nightmare for anyone to have missed it because of that, but luckily we've managed to avoid picking up any silly knocks (at the time of writing!).

At the start of this week, Danny and I emphasised to the players that this really is it now, and we've kept their mind on the job all week in training.

It will obviously be a very enjoyable day for everyone, but when the serious stuff starts I am confident we'll be ready for it.

We've seen a lot of quality in training throughout this week, and the players have looked very much up for the game on Saturday - as of course you would expect them to be.

The weather has been excellent all week as well which has only gone further towards helping our preparation.

Obviously the players have had to take on a bit more fluid during the day, but all in all it's nicer to train in that sort of weather because you haven't got as much gear on and it's a bit more lightweight.

As for the game itself, it's going to be very tight as the other games between the two sides have been.

And at the end of the day when you look at the play-off places there were only about four or five points between the four teams who ended up there, and that's all the evidence they need.

We've got a of young lads in the squad, but they've shown time and time again this season that they've got what it takes to succeed on the big stage, not least last week at Charlton, and I'm confident they can do it again tomorrow.

It's crucially important they play the game and not the occasion, as we've seen teams crumble at this stage in the past, but hopefully that won't happen tomorrow.

All that's left to say is thank you very much for your support throughout the season, and enjoy the game tomorrow - hopefully we'll be celebrating promotion tomorrow evening!

Enjoy the game,

Peter Shirtliff
