Swindon Town striker Barry Corr hopes to return stronger and fitter after enduring a tough summer rehabilitation programme.

The striker saw his 2007/08 campaign curtailed by a shoulder injury and after undergoing surgery, has been working hard throughout the summer in a bid to ensure he is in a position to make a significant contribution to the new season.

Corr, who has hit five goals in seven league starts for Swindon since signing a permanent deal from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2007, is upbeat ahead of the new term.

"I have been in over the summer and have got a lot of strengthening work done. The shoulder feels a lot more solid and it is now two months since the operation. I had to wear a sling for three weeks after the operation and I lost a lot of muscle around the shoulder; but I have built that back up.

"I got some sun too though and had a few breaks. There were a few other footballers in the gym at the resort I went to in Mexico that actually helped. We started a regular gym session whilst we were all out there.

"To be fair when I booked a holiday I researched the gyms available to make sure I was able to get the work done I had to do.

"It was a massive resort and I bumped into Gary Cahill, now with Bolton. He used to be at Aston Villa, and they were my team as a youngster. It was great to have someone to work with and we shared a few ideas and exercises that we were doing."

With the Town players due to return for pre-season training early on Friday morning, Corr is expected to be on the non-contact list for a few weeks to come.

"I should be able to join in the running - I have been running for the last two weeks!

"When it comes to the friendly games I may have to sit those out for the first part and then see when the contact gets introduced."
