Swindon Town manager Maurice Malpas has admitted the transfer market is now coming to life as the search for new talent goes on.

The boss admitted he is now judging his squad in both training and games as the countdown to the big kick-off against Tranmere Rovers approaches. Although relatively happy with the squad he has at present, Malpas knows there is room for improvement.

"There are a couple of other things in the pipeline and we have a number of targets who we are talking too. Some are currently under contract with clubs and some are out of contract.

"One or two players have now come back into the reckoning, as we get closer to the season the shift in power does change. It is working to our advantage now because one or two players who we may not have been able to get initially, could be within our reach.

"Some agents thing clubs like ours will panic and give the players more money for the sake of it, but we won't do it as people have found out. I want players to come here who want to play for Swindon Town Football Club.

"The loan market is getting a bit busier too. Managers are sitting down now and deciding what their squads will be for the season so we will wait and see what comes out of those conversations," he said.

Lilian Nalis after his first training session with The Robins

Defensive midfielder Lilian Nalis trained with The Robins for the first time on Thursday morning with the boss casting an eye over the experienced Frenchman.

"He came over yesterday and went to the Salisbury game last night. He trained today and will play against Chippenham Town and Cardiff City on Tuesday.

"I phoned Lilian and he was desperate to come across to England and prove to me that he can still handle it. His family like it over here so he would be keen on a move.

"I have spoken to a number of people about him, former teammates of his and the likes of Paul Sturrock and John Blackley, and no one has had a bad word to say about him.

"The important thing is his fitness and he has a tremendous amount of experience too and if he can benefit this club then we will sign him."
